Orange County Council
A Letter From Our President
Dear Navy League members and friends,
With great honor and enthusiasm, please allow me to introduce myself, Joe Greco, as your incoming president.
As we embark on this new chapter together, I am filled with excitement and inspiration to share my vision and goals for our organization.
First, let’s thank our outgoing President, John Gates, for his many years of leadership, especially during the pandemic challenge. As a result of his efforts, the Orange County Council survived the challenge and is poised to reclaim its vibrant and dynamic role in our community.
I come to this role with a deep-rooted connection to our nation’s naval heritage. In addition to being a member of the Sons of the American Legion, my family’s history is intertwined with military service and the military-industrial complex, specifically in service to the U.S. Navy. This background has instilled in me a profound appreciation for our sea services’ vital role in safeguarding our nation and its interests. My professional background as an expert in global trade and finance has reinforced my understanding of the critical importance of a strong American Navy and Marine Corps in defending our global economy and the American way of life. This perspective will inform my leadership as we work together to support our sea services in these trying times of great power competition. I also serve as a Blue and Gold Officer for the U.S. Naval Academy and as a contributing author to the Navy League’s Sea Power and U.S. Naval Institute’s Proceedings magazines.
Our primary mission remains supporting our sea services, with a critical focus on recruitment efforts for 2024. We’re facing significant challenges, and it’s our duty to help address this vital need.
To reinvigorate our council, we will:
- Sponsor tours to naval and marine bases, including aircraft carrier experiences (Embark Program).
- Organize e-gaming events to engage diverse age groups, especially potential recruits and our sea service veterans.
- Host member events celebrating our sea services such as the Navy’s Birthday (October 13).
- Expand our support for Orange County veterans through:
- Partnerships with local veteran organizations such as the Veterans Program at Cal State, Fullerton
- Mentorship programs
- Social events and support groups for spouses
- Legislative advocacy for veteran interests
Together, we will make a real difference for those who serve and strengthen the bond between our community and the naval services. I’m looking forward to working with all of you on this exciting journey. Thank you for your continued support!
